In this blog post, we announce a $512,000 grant awarded to Unit Zero Labs and Anthias Labs for the Uniswap Community Research Program, a continuation of last quarter’s grant to Allium, designed to drive deeper and more actionable research into the Uniswap ecosystem and broader DeFi landscape. We detail the program's mission, vision, structure, and next steps.*

The mission of our research funding category is to ensure that the Uniswap Protocol continues to lead technological advances in AMMs. In pursuit of this, we are excited to announce that a $512,000 grant has been awarded to Unit Zero Labs and Anthias Labs for the Uniswap Community Research Program! The Community Research Program seeks to facilitate deeper and more actionable research into the Uniswap ecosystem and the broader DeFi landscape. Through structured challenges and incentives, the project focuses on attracting new analysts and data scientists while still supporting existing ones, catalyzing a continuous flow of fresh insights and ideas to improve the protocol at large.

This grant allocation builds upon our previous quarter's grant to Allium, which focused on organizing, tagging, and maintaining data, as well as developing a user interface. The Uniswap Community Research Program aims to drive the adoption and utilization of this organized data.

Community Research Program: Mission and Vision

The Uniswap Community Research Program combines elements of a research analyst fellowship and a data scientist incubator over a 12-month period. It will feature diverse research challenges that range from one-week sprints to multi-month research fellowships. This flexible structure supports a variety of research engagements, including hackathons, data visualization contests, and open dataset competitions, fostering innovation and comprehensive investigation into Uniswap, and DeFi in general.

With different types and levels of engagement, the Community Research Program allows for both DeFi and academic research communities to identify interesting and high impact questions that may benefit the protocol in the following ways:

  • Facilitating deeper and more actionable research insights directly affecting the protocol

  • Providing and aggregating resources needed to conduct thorough analyses

  • Creating a self-sustaining network effect by attracting and retaining top talent in academia and DeFi research

  • Driving the development of research-driven products and features that can be practically implemented on top of the protocol

In order to achieve this, Unit Zero and Anthias will work closely with Allium to establish a comprehensive network of researchers through unified communication channels. Together they will connect and collaborate more easily to scope challenges, post new analyses, administer prizes, host events and fellowships.

What’s Next?

The Uniswap Community Research Program will commence with the development of its initial six months, uniting diverse academic and DeFi research groups, consolidating essential tools, and collaborating with current researchers to pinpoint the most intriguing and impactful questions to investigate. KPIs for the subsequent following 6-months include producing valuable research pieces, promoting the program to attract participants, and engaging academics. To view the full proposal, click here.
